This a post about my two teachers this semester. These two professors are awesome and if i could take them again I would.
I want to send a special thanks to Prof. Lia Dikigoropoulou
and Prof. Jill Bouratoglou for this semester. You guys are awesome

Final Boards

Here are my final boards I hope you enjoy. please leave comments, I'm trying to make this project a portfolio piece, Thank you

Milk and Cookies

Milk and Cookies also know as "Leche y Galletas" in Spanish is also known in architecture as the basics. We were asked to do this in the beginning of the semester and we are now asked to do it to ours. This is basically a breakdown of our design from the basic shapes to the structure.

Renderings

Here you have some renderings I did on this project but since we did not need many interior renderings I only did two inside.

Sections

Facade

Since my design was based on the concepts of a barbershop I designed a scissor stair, which led to the design on the left side of the front facade.

N & S Elevation

My South Elevations are two different experiences in the front you have this calm unique front and the back you have this box coming out of another which are made of glass. This creates these wonderful views bringing back views to South St seaport that it once had. I also have this design and signage on the from which come from the layout of my stairs. The signage is Spelling SPC which is seaport center.
The material used was mostly concrete and terracotta, but the design are made of glass and brick.

E & W Elevations

Here are my East and West Elevation
The side panel is made of two materials the first material is metal mesh which is the main wall and glass for the curtain wall box slanted at an angle.
This curve tthat comes through the front is made of terra-cotta and comes from the design of a barber pole.

Plans

Heres an overlook of my plan a bigger and clearer picture will be posted shortly.
Stay tuned.

Program Process

My Design is broken up into 3 Groups shown above,
Hygiene which is shown in the color red
Education which is shown in yellow
Blue which is shown in the color blue

Collages

Before the Models there were collages which was the start of our design. The models were made through here also.

Models to Sketches

My models turned into sketches and the sketches then helped further my design into what it became.

Models

After all the models I was left with only 3 and then those 3 became hybrids. These then helped design my center a ton considering  the main design was based off of these models.

Location

The Seaport Wellness Center

 Hey There!
Welcome to The Seaport Wellness Center.
What you have in front of you is 100 ft. tall structure located on Peckslip and Front St.

Personal Attachment

Hey there blog viewers!
Sorry for not posting in so long i've been realll busy with this semester and been working hard on this project, just couldn't find the time. Well before I start to share the over summary of The Seaport Wellness Center  I want to share the places that helped me create certain space in my design.
Kips Bay Boys & Girls Center
-This is space I know pretty well as i used to attend this club during my childhood.Since the program in my design contains a Afterchool Center/Daycare I based a lot of placement of the rooms similar to the ones I went in.

The BarberShop-
Thou i am an architect student i am also a barber, This is where i work so being that I have a unisex salon in my program I also based my the placement of chairs, circulation and spacing similar to this place.
Image
Jungle Gym-
I also did take up MMA and since I have a MMA gym in my program i also placed the circulation space planning and size from the experience I had here.

I tried to make this building as convenient as possible since I have personal experience in spaces I have in my program I tired to personalize the program to accommodate needs the spaces may have to fulfill. Especially since I trying to promote relaxation, purity and comfortability out of this center everything has to be bright and spacious.

Design Progress

I have had trouble on making the concept of this building work with the program I am trying to put into the building. After getting rid of some the program and adding different ones I have finally got a steady design. Now my only obstacles is embracing the glass rectangular prism in the middle with out leaving dead spaces. Plans are still cooking and will be posted soon.

Sketches (process)

Over this semester I have been recreating different design. I am now satisfied with this certain design.  As you see above I have my thought process through sketch. My study model is sort of crude and over whelming so I began to simplify my design( "Less is more"-Ludwig Mies van der Rohe). I took 4 elements off of my study model.
2 rectangular prisms
1 triangular shape &
The movement of my original design
From there I started to place program in the design and site. I then began study Barber shop concepts for the exterior and I created a curve based on the barber pole and stairs representing scissors.

Parkour Precedence Study

The Brooklyn Zoo is a Parkour gym in Brooklyn which I based my Parkour gym on.
Parkour is a growing activity and a holistic exercise around the U.S
Since there's a gym in Brooklyn i thought creating a gym in Manhattan would help this activity grow and introduce a new exercise to a different community.

New Program

Over the time of design and fitting program to the actual site I see that my old program did not follow my design the way I wanted it to. So after researching the area and activities that take place I produced a new program. I took out the small clinic and swimming pool since they didn’t fit with the other pieces of my design. Now I have created the new program for my wellness center, which are the following:
·         Parkour Gym
·         MMA Gym
·         Basketball Court
·         Barbershop
·         Weight Room
·         Hair Salon
·         Nail Salon
·         Massage Parlor
·         After School Program
·         Daycare
The concept of my new design is to build a place dedicated to wellness.
I broke wellness into 3 parts
Hygiene – Exercise – Education
These points brake the program up into 3 sections.
Hygiene-
Nail Salon, Barber Shop, Hair Salon & Massage Parlor
Exercise-
Basketball Court, MMA Gym, Parkour Gym & Weight Room
Education-
Afterschool Program, Daycare (also MMA and Parkour Gym)

Adjacency and Bubble Diagram

Based on your precedent studies, determine the program of your building.

For the next session you need

1. List of spaces

Once you identify the functions of your building, and the users of your building you should be able to make a list of all the spaces needed. Have a system or organizing method as you list the spaces for example according to size or importance.

Once the list of Spaces is determined you will develop RELATIONSHIP DIAGRAMS

2. Adjacency Matrix and Criteria Matrix

Adjacency Matrix is an in-depth look into how each space relates to the other within the building. The purpose of the matrix is to organize and link different activity areas together.

3. Bubble Diagram-
A bubble draws information from the adjacency matrix. Moreover, a bubble diagram represents information visually in the form of a series of bubbles. The bubbles can be used to represent different kinds of spaces in a plan, varying in shape to represent features of greater or lesser importance and size. The bubble diagram can create a rough sense of flow, which is used to develop a more refined plan.

Bubble Diagrams

As we have finished our last study model we then have to start and layout spaces. These diagrams help me plan out the generic use and laying space.
here is diagram 1-6*

The diagram below is a bubble diagram from the elevation view.

Final Study Model

Being that we are cutting down on our models to make a main design i decided to create on model that contains something of every model after considering the site and design ideas that i've thought of I came up with this:

For this model I want keep the design narrow to accommodate to our site. So i thought of also making the height decline as the length changes,
You can see how it fits the sit from the pictures below:
